Majestic 4700 base coat- 3/4”

3070 “combo” varnish-3/4”
Preparation:
1. No sanding or sealing necessary on the primed metalware. Apply 2 coats of Black using a 3/4” brush, dry between coats. Sand lightly and tack.
2. Trace the pattern including all petal detail onto clear acetate or vellum using a fine line permanent marker.
3. Transfer the pattern onto the tag using white graphite, include the petal detail.

Instructions:
Bud & Leaves: Stand the brush straight up on the chisel at the outside edge of the petal to complete all steps. Apply one coat of Dark Forest Green to the leaves using a #6 flat. Pull from the outside edge of each leaf toward the center vein using several strokes on each side of each leaf then fill the centers in. Use a dark burgundy brush mix of Dark Forest+Sweetheart Blush, use the chisel of the #6 flat to pull veins down the center of the leaves. Layout small amounts of Dark Forest/Straw/White/Sweetheart Blush. Use the #6 flat to begin the highlights, working one leaf at a time. Pull a little Dark Forest on from the outside edge toward the center, pick up a little Straw on the dirty brush, blend and pull a few strokes on the leaf edge, then use Dark Forest, adding a little Straw here and there. For a few tiny highlights brush mix a little Dark Forest, a lot of Straw and a dot White. Rinse and dry the brush then mix a little Sweetheart+White for a few pink areas on the edges of a few leaves. Use the same brush and colors to pull on the bud and its green stem.

Rose Stem: Add the cut end of the stem with the #6 flat and a dark burgundy mix of Dark Forest+Sweetheart, then pull the stem on. Brush mix a tiny amount of White onto the dirty brush and slash a few highlights onto the stem with the chisel. Add a few slashes of Dark Forest complete.

The Rose: Don’t make this difficult! Keep the close up and cover pictures in front of you for reference. Layout small amounts of Sweetheart Blush/Hydrangea Pink/White. Use the #6 filbert and Sweetheart to pull the darkest areas on the bowl, inside the bowl and the small areas on the fall petals. These are not large areas, keep the petal pattern shapes for your map. Pick up a little Hydrangea Pink on the dirty brush, blend and smear the middle value pink next to the darks. Pick up Hydrangea, pull it on near the middle value. Use the tip of the brush to pull a few petals across the back and add the few small edges in the center of the bowl using the chisel. Add a few edges on the side petals, blending where the colors meet. Your rose should be fully shaped by now, all that is needed are a few highlights on the turned petals. The lightest turned petals are at the center front of the flower, notice there are no straight whites on the flower. Use the chisel of the brush and White+dot Hydrangea to pull the folded petals on, begin with the sides, adding a little more White to that mix to pull the front petal folds and turns on.

Merci: If you want to get the lettering a bold, bright gold and only paint it once, put a little 14K Gold on your palette about 10 or 15 minutes before using it so it thickens a bit. Use a #2 round to add the lettering, use a little more pressure for the wider areas.

Finishing: Remove all graphite marks. Chaco can be removed with clean water or graphite with odorless turpentine and a paper towel. Dry. Apply 3-5 coats of JWetc. Polyurethane Varnish using a Langnickel #3070 “combo” varnish brush. Dry thoroughly between coats.
